Cute Kittens

"I believe cats to be spirits come to earth. A cat, I am sure, could walk on a cloud without coming through."                                                                                   ~~Jules Verne

Say It With Roses! Part II

In keeping with part I, here are three more roses for you:

Yellow roses signify friendship or joy. They are also a good way to send a get well message!

The pink rose carries a meaning of love, gratitude or appreciation.  This is a very nice
way to say "Thank you."

Finally, we come to the orange rose...the symbol of desire, passion or enthusiasm.
This a good choice for a graduate, post-recital gift, or just a way to say "Good job!"

Say It With Roses! Part I

It is said that there is symbolism in the color of roses when one person gives them to another as a gift.
Here are some of the colors and what they mean:

The red rose is the universally symbolic of love and romance. It is the perfect way to say "I love you!"

A lavender rose suggests regal majesty and splendor.  These might make the perfect accent in a bouquet for one who wins a beauty pageant or is named Homecoming Queen?

White roses signify purity, innocence, & sympathy.  That's probably why they are common
components of weddings and funerals.

Stay tuned: more about the symbolism of roses coming soon!

Hector Montoya: A kid who cares!

Meet Hector Montoya..he's a 9 year old from Texas who was saving up his money for a Playstation 4.
While watching the news earlier this year, this young man saw a story about house fires in his area and how the situation could have been prevented if people had smoke detectors in their homes.

A firefighter with the Grand Prairie Fire Department instructs Montoya and other other kids on how to install a smoke detector

What did Hector do?  He used the $300 he saved for the Playstation to purchase 100 smoke detectors.
With the help of local firefighters he went door to door and helped install them for those in need.

Hats off to you Jeremy!  You make our world a better place to live.

The Last Lecture

It's commencement season! Congratulations to the Class of 2014.

So what is today's talk about then? It's about my childhood dreams and how I've achieved them — I've been very fortunate that way; how I believe I've been able to enable the dreams of others, and to some degree, lessons learned: I'm a professor — there should be some lessons learned — and how you can use the stuff you hear today to enable your dreams or enable the dreams of others. And as you get older you may find that enabling-the-dreams-of-others thing is even more fun.    ~~Randy Pausch

Now that it is graduation season, I thought it would be good to look back at one of the most memorable commencement speeches ever given--Randy Pausch's Last Lecture.  Dr. Pausch gave this talk shortly before he died of liver cancer in July 2008.  I find his words inspirational, and I hope you will too~

The Ultimate Wedding Day Surprise...

This was a "viral video" on YouTube back in early April. A young couple gets the ultimate surprise at their wedding ceremony.  I love it!
